How to Clean Your Zelez Bottle (and Keep It Fresh)

A water bottle sees more daily use than almost anything else you own - which also means it needs a little regular care to stay fresh. Here's the simple routine for keeping your Zelez Bottle in great shape.

The daily quick rinse

If you're refilling with plain water, a quick rinse with warm water at the end of the day is usually enough. Give it a shake, tip it upside down on a dish rack, and let it air dry with the lid off so no moisture gets trapped inside.

The weekly deep clean

  • Body: Hand wash with warm, soapy water. A bottle brush helps reach the bottom - the narrower base of an insulated bottle is easy to miss with just a cloth.
  • Lid: The lid is dishwasher-safe - pop it on the top rack. If washing by hand, take a moment to work the straw and the push-button lock, since residue can build up in the small channels.
  • Straw: A thin bottle brush or even a pipe cleaner works well for the inside of the straw, which is easy to overlook.

If you've used it for coffee, tea, or juice

These leave more residue and can affect taste over time. A once-a-week soak works wonders: fill the bottle with warm water, a tablespoon of baking soda (or a splash of white vinegar), let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Avoid bleach or harsh chemical cleaners - they're unnecessary and can affect the steel's finish over time.

What to avoid

  • Don't put the bottle body in the dishwasher - hand wash it to protect the exterior finish. The lid alone is dishwasher-safe.
  • Don't leave sugary or dairy-based drinks in the bottle for extended periods - rinse as soon as you can.
  • Don't use steel wool or abrasive scrubbers, which can scratch the surface.
